Between Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice, Today explores complex and intricate emotional narrative of Emily Jungmin Yoon's poem of the same title. I instantly fell in love with the poem the moment I saw it because its intricate emotional narrative and its textile nature. The poem,  revolving around the word "chada" in Korean and its numerous meanings, draws attention to how each meaning is connected to the temporal background, somewhere between October and December. In my piece, I wanted to capture the separation and coming together of the cold and bleak reality and the speaker's lively and pointillistic imagination of the word "chada." Therefore, I juxtaposed two contrasting musical languages that don't seem to blend with each other but eventually come to some sort of agreement or resolution. The voice part often diverges from conventional singable melody to leapy melody that covers a wide range of the singer's voice to highlight the contrast between the barren reality and the lively imagination.
